Convert2MP3 Clone Sites
When a famous site shuts down, impersonators move in. Since the original convert2mp3.net closed in 2019, many sites have used the Convert2MP3 name, and not all of them are honest tools. Here is how to tell the difference.
Why clones exist
The original had hundreds of millions of visits a year. That traffic is valuable, so copycat sites adopt the name to attract the original's former users. Some are functional converters; others exist to push software, show ads disguised as download buttons, or worse. See what happened to the original for context.
Red flags
- Claims to be the original. The original is gone and its domains went to IFPI. Any site claiming otherwise is lying about its identity.
- Demands a software or app install. A real browser converter needs no install. Demands for executables or APKs are a classic malware vector.
- Multiple fake download buttons. Ads styled as big "Download" buttons that open pop-ups instead of delivering a file.
- Asks for accounts or payment. Converting a YouTube link should never require sign-up or a credit card.
- Requests browser permissions. Notifications, location, or other permissions have no role in conversion.
How to check a site
- Read the domain carefully. Lookalike domains with extra words or odd endings are a warning sign.
- Look for one real download button. After converting, there should be exactly one button that delivers your file.
- Check with VirusTotal. Paste the domain into VirusTotal to see how security vendors rate it.
- Test with a short video. Try a short public video first; a working converter delivers an MP3 in seconds.
About this site
This site does not claim to be the original. It is a new, separate tool: no software, no accounts, HTTPS, one real download button. Read is Convert2MP3 safe? for the full safety picture.
