YouTube Podcast to MP3
A huge share of podcasts publish full episodes on YouTube. Converting an episode to MP3 lets you listen offline, in any podcast or music app, without keeping the YouTube app open. Here is the workflow.
Why convert podcast episodes
- Offline listening: commutes, flights, and dead zones without burning data.
- Background play: any audio player keeps playing with the screen off.
- Your app of choice: use the podcast app you actually like, with its speed controls and sleep timers.
- Archiving: keep episodes that might later be deleted or paywalled.
Convert an episode
- Copy the episode link from the YouTube app (Share, Copy link) or desktop address bar.
- Paste it into the converter and press Convert. Full episodes are long, so give it time.
- Download the MP3 and rename it: show name, episode number, title.
Playing episodes
- Podcast apps: most (Pocket Casts, Podcast Addict, Overcast via file import) can play local MP3s alongside your subscriptions.
- Music apps: any music player handles MP3s; make an "Episodes" playlist.
- Speed: 1.25x to 1.5x is the standard podcast-listening speed. Spoken word stays clear.
- Sleep timer: essential for bedtime listening; every major podcast app has one.
Long episodes
Two and three hour episodes are normal in podcasting. See converting long YouTube videos for file sizes and processing tips.
A note on rights
Podcasts are the creator's work. Many are released free with advertising as the business model; downloading for personal offline listening is common practice, but redistributing episodes is not. See what you can legally convert (general information, not legal advice).
